Crochet Pattern - Eye Mask

Materials: Cotton DK Yarn, size 0 crochet hook (slightly in between D & E hook), dark material for lining, 1/4" elastic to go around head.


Note: Excellent for afternoon naps, night-shift workers or people with nasty migraines.
Pattern: Chain 25.
Row 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across to end, ch 2 loosely and turn.
Row 2: 2 dc in same sp as ch 2, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 11 times, sc in next st, 3 dc in last st, ch 2 loosely and turn.
Row 3: 2 dc in same sp as ch 2, dc in next st, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 12 times, dc in next st, 3 dc in last st, ch 2 loosely and turn.
Row 4: 2 dc in same sp as ch 2, dc in next st, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 14 times, 3 dc in last st, ch 2 loosely and turn.
Row 5: 2 dc in same sp as ch 2, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 16 times, 3 dc in last st, ch 2 loosely and turn.
Row 6: 2 dc in same sp as ch 2, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 17 times, sc in next st, 3 dc in last st, ch 2 loosely and turn.
Row 7: dc in next st, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 18 times, dc in next st, dc in last st, ch 2 loosely and turn.

Starting of nose shaping:
Note: Use stitch markers or contrast color yarn in unused loops where one edge only is used. They will be needed for edging later. (See picture below for illustration)
Row 8: (Right side of work) dc in next st, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 8 times, sc in next st, 5 dc in back loop only of next st and place marker or contrasting yarn in unused loop here and whenever only 1 loop is used, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 9 times, dc in next 2 sts, ch 2 loosely and turn.
Row 9: dc next 2 sts tog, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 8 times, sc in next st, dc in front loop only of next st, dc in next st, 2 dc in each of next 3 sts, dc in next st, dc in front loop only of next st, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 7 times, sc in next st, dc next 2 sts tog, dc in last st, ch 2 loosely and turn.
Row 10: dc next 2 sts tog, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 6 times, sc in next st, 2 dc in back loop only of next st, dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts, dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in back loop only of next st, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 7 times, dc next 2 sts tog, dc in last st, ch 1 and turn.
Left Eye Shaping:
Row 1: hdc in next st, (dc in next st, sc in next st) 6 times, sc next 2 sts tog, ch 1 and turn.
Row 2: dc in next st, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 4 times, sc in next, dc last 2 sts tog, ch 1 and turn.
Row 3: dc in next st, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 3 times, sc next 2 sts tog, break yarn.

Right Eye Shaping:
with right side of work facing, join yarn to outer edge of right eye.
Row 1: ch 1, hdc in next st, (dc in next st, sc in next st) 6 times, sc in last st, ch 1 and turn.
Row 2: dc in next st, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 4 times, sc in next st, dc last 2 sts tog, ch 1 and turn.
Row 3: dc in next st, (sc in next st, dc in next st) 3 times, sc in next st, dc last 2 sts tog, do not break yarn.

Edging: (going in clockwise direction as before)
Row 1: ch 1, sc around outer edge, including across the bridge of the nose in previously saved unused loops (see picture for guidelines), sl st to top of ch 1 at beginning of round.
Row 2: ch 1, sc in each st around and sl st to top of ch 1 at beginning of round.

Break yarn and darn in all ends. Add 2 pieces of elastic to sides of mask, long enough to fit comfortably around your head. Lay the eye mask onto your lining fabric and cut fabric 1/4 " bigger, iron under 1/4 " of edge and baste onto back side of eye mask.
