Beaded Keepsake Purse


This unique beaded keepsake purse pattern was kindly contributed by Designer:  Shirley Strand of "Shefog's Crochet Workroom".

Notes: Bhdc = Beaded Half-Double-Crochet: Thread Over hook. insert hook in st or space indicated in pattern. Pull up loop. Push two beads up close to back side of crochet fabric (st). Thread over and pull through all three loops. Pull tight to fasten beads.
Thread on 4-6 inches worth of beads at a time before starting to crochet. When you've used up all the beads, snip thread and fasten off. String on more beads an re-fasten thread to purse.
Materials: Size #20 cotton thread, such as Cebelia. (maybe 2 gms) Size 6 steel hook (If you crochet loosely then use a 7 hook)
OR
Size #30 cotton thread, such as Cebelia
Size 8 steel hook (If you crochet loosely then use a 9 hook)
11/0 seed beads 250
Beading needle
Pony bead for purse strap
Additional Decorative beads for bottom of purse
Note: This keepsake purse may we worn as a necklace.
Directions: String on about 4-6 inches worth of beads first.
Rnd 1: Ch 3. (counts as first st) Make 8 hdc in first chain. Sl st to op of ch 3 to join. (9 hdcs)
Rnd 2: Ch 2 (counts as first st) Make hdc in first st. Make 2 hdc in next st and in each st around. Join with sl st. (18 hdcs)
Rnd 3: Ch 2. *Make 2 Bhdc in next st. Make hdc in next st. Repeat from * 8 times. Make 2 Bhdc in next st. Sl st to join. (27 sts, 18 Beaded)
Rnd 4: Ch 2. Make hdc in next st. *Make 2 Bhdc in next st. Make hdc in each of next 2 sts. Repeat from *8 times. Make 2 Bhdc in next st. Join. (36 sts, 18 Beaded)
Rnd 5: Ch 2. Make hdc in each st around. Sl st to join.
Rnd 6: Ch 1. Make sc in first st. Skip 2 sts. Make 5-dc in next st. (Shell made) Sk next 2 sts. *Sc in next st. Sk next 2 sts. Make 5-dc shell in next st. Sk next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Sl st to first sc. (6 Shells)
Rnd 7: Ch 2 (counts as dc). Make 4 dc in same st (shell made) *Make sc in middle dc of next shell. Make Shell in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to ch 2. (6 Shells)
Rnd 8: Ch 1. Make sc in same st. Make sc in each st around. Sl st to ch 1 to join.
Rnd 9-10: Push up 2 beads close to back side of fabric. Ch 1 to hold beads. (counts as a beaded stitch). Make a Bhdc in each st around. Sl st to ch 1 to join.
Rnd 11: Ch 2. Make hdc in next st and in each st around. Sl st to join.
Rnd 12: Ch 1. Make sc in first st. Skip 2 sts. Make 5-dc in next st. (Shell made) Sk next 2 sts. *Sc in next st. Sk next 2 sts. Make 5-dc shell in next st. Sk next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Sl st to first sc. (6 Shells).
Rnd 13: Ch 2 (counts as dc). Make 4 dc in same st (shell made) *Make sc in middle dc of next shell. Make Shell in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to ch 2. (6 Shells)
Rnd 14: Push up 2 beads close to back side of fabric. Ch 1 to hold beads. (counts as a beaded stitch). Make a Bhdc in each st around. Sl st to ch 1 to join.
Rnd 15: Ch 2. Make hdc in same st. Ch 2. Sk st. *Make 2 hdc in next st. Ch 2. Sk st. Repeat from * around. Join.
Rnd 16: Sl st to ch 2 space. Ch 2. Make hdc in same space. * Sk next 2 hdc's. Make 2 hdc in next ch 2 space. Repeat from * around. Join.
Rnd 17: Ch 2. Make hdc in next st and in each st around. Sl st to join.
Rnd 18: Ch 4. Make dc in same st. (counts as dc, ch 1, dc). Sk next st. *In next st make dc, ch 2, dc. Sk st. Repeat from * around. Join. Fasten off thread.
Turn purse so that the beads are inside. Reattach thread to any ch 2 space.
Rnd 19: Ch 1. Sc in same space. Push bead up, ch 1 to hold. *In next ch 2 space make (Tr, bead up, ch 1) 6 times. Make sc in next ch 2 s pace. Bead up, ch 1 to hold. Repeat from * around. Sl st to join. Fasten off.
Cord: Cut two lengths of thread about 4 yards longs. With both strands together, chain the length. Thread this through rnd 18.   Adjust length.  Slip pony bead over both ends and then tie knot.  You'll be able to adjust the length of your necklace by sliding the pony bead up or down.
Sew on decorative beads at bottom.
