Crochet Patterns - Everyday Shawl


Materials: Coats & Clark Red Heart knitting worsted, 4-ply, 20 ounces. Crochet hook size G.
Size: 43" square, excluding fringe.
Gauge: 3 knot-stitch loops = 4".


Shawl: Ch 162 to measure 43" (15 ch to 4").
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * draw up loop on hook to measure 1", yo hook and through loop on hook, insert hook between the 1" loop and the single strand behind it (see image below), draw a loop through (2 loops on hook) yo hook and through all loops on hook - knot st made; make another knot st, sk next 4 ch, sc in next ch, knot-st-loop made; repeat from * across - 32 knot-st loops. Make 2 knot sts, turn.

Row 2: Sl st in center of first knot-st loop; * 2 knot sts, sl st in center of next loop, repeat from * across - 32 loops. Make 2 knot-sts, turn. Repeat row 2 until piece forms a square. At end of last row, make 1 knot st, ch 4, turn.
Last Row: Sc in center of first loop, * ch 4, sc in center of next loop, repeat from * across to next corner. Working along next edge, * ch 4, sc in end st of next row, repeat from * across to next corner. End off. Work along opposite edge in same way.
Fringe Rnd 1: Join yarn to any corner st, ch 1, 3 sc in same place where yarn was joined, sc in each st around, making 3 sc in each remaining corner. Sl st in  first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 10, * yo hook 4 times, draw up a loop in next sc (yo and through 2 loops) 5 times - long st made; ch 4, repeat from * around. Sl st in 6th ch of ch 10. End off. Block to measurements.
