Irish Crochet Floral Picture


Size: To fit 3" diameter frame.
Materials: Clark’s "Big Ball" Mercerized Crochet Cotton Art. B 34, size 50, one ball. Steel crochet hook size 5 (.75 mm). Circular frame, 3" in diameter.


Gauge: Four rnds of first flower = 3/4" diameter.
First Flower: Ch 7, join with sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: (Sc, ch 3) 6 times in ring, sl st in back lp of first sc.
Rnd 2: (Sc, half dc, 3 dc, half dc, sc) in each ch-3 sp. sl st in back lp of first sc-6 small petals made.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, working behind Rnd 2, sc in ring between first 2 sc of first rnd, * ch 5, sc in ring between last sc and next Sc, repeat from *, end ch 5, sl st in first sc.
Rnd 4: (Sc, half dc, 5 dc, half dc, sc) in each ch-5 sp around, sl st in back lp of first sc—6 large petals made. Do not fasten off.
Stem: Row 1: Ch 1, working behind Rnd 1 to first flower, sl st in first sc of Rnd 3, ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 6 ch, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in next sc, half dc in sc, 3 dc in next 3 sc, half dc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc; working on opposite side of Row 1, half dc in same sp as last half dc, (3 dc in same sp as next 3 dc group) 3 times, half dc in same sp as next half dc, sc in same sp as next sc, sl st in next ch, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sk first sl st, sc in next 13 sts, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 13 sts, sl st in same space as last sc of first row, sl st in next sl st—first leaf made.
Row 4: Ch 17, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 6 ch, ch 1, turn.
Row 5: Repeat Row 2.
Row 6: Sk first sl st, sc in next 6 sts, remove lp from hook, insert hook into 5th from last sc of first leaf, pull dropped lp through—joining st made, sc in next 7 sts, 3 sc in next sc, complete same as first leaf.
Row 7: Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 8 ch, sl st in base of second leaf, ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 6 ch, ch 1, turn.
Rows 8 and 9: Repeat Rows 2 and 3—3rd leaf made, sc in each ch of stem, sl st in first sl st of Row 1. Fasten off.
Second Flower:
Row 1: Work Row 1 of first flower—6 petals made.
Row 2: Ch 1, working behind Row 1, sc in ring between first 2 sc of first row, * ch 3, sc in ring between last sc and next sc; repeat from * ending ch 3, sl st in first sc.
Row 3: Work a small petal in each of first 4 lps, (sc, half dc, dc) in next lp, joining st in 4th dc of first large petal of first flower, (2 dc, half dc, sc) in same lp—joining petal made, joining petal in next lp working joining st in back lp of 6th from last sc of stem, sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Third Flower:
Rows 1 and 2: Work Rows 1 and 2 of second flower.
Row 3: Small petal in each of first 3 lps, joining petal in next lp working joining st in 7th sc on last row of first leaf, joining petal in next lp working joining st in 4th ch of stem, joining petal in next lp working joining st in center dc of next large petal of first flower, sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Edging:
Rnd 1: * Ch 4, dc in 4th ch from hook, repeat from * 37 times, sl st in first ch.
Rnd 2: 3 sc in each dc, sl st in first sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next sc, dc in next 2 sc, repeat from * omitting dc of last repeat, sl st in top of ch-3. Fasten off.
Finishing: Dampen piece and pin out to shape. Glue piece and edging to fabric-covered board of frame.
